THE MINISTERING TO GROUPS 4.1. GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS

First of all, people need acceptance, love and a gradual ministering into a Ministry of
restoration with skilled people in the psychological area and the Word of God. They must
meet other people with which to share similar situations to support each other, establishing
a special day for this Ministry to be guided towards the renewal of their mind and heart
through a process of dialogues and specific ministering on the damaged areas.
It is also very important to provide the time so that they can express their feelings and
repressed emotions. So it is necessary that the environment is suitable and people are
gathered together according to age, sex or according to need. The important thing is that it
can exist in an environment of confidence and freedom to speak. These people need a
special restoration ministry, spiritual therapy and fellowship because love and acceptance is
basic to those thirsty souls of love and to be heard.
Meetings should be directed to specific groups by age, gender, mixed groups or according
to the subject to be treated.
Talks should try to follow a gradual order, but must pay attention especially to the needs of
the Group and the direction of the Holy Spirit. People from the beginning should have clear
which is God´s nature to avoid an inappropriate image of God or Satan that would obstruct
spiritual growth.
An environment of trust and security, acceptance, and love within the group must be
established.
There should be a period of prayer at the end of the meeting directed by the leader on the
subject to be treated and the needs that arise.
64
There should be a support group to give individual counseling.
The Ministry of praise is essential to soften the hearts and allow the personal defense
mechanisms to fall down.
Frequency within meetings must be prudentially set down so the person must be allowed to
assimilate the teachings of biblical truths.
IT IS NECESSARY TO CONSIDER THESE ASPECTS:
• Instruct on God´s nature of mercy and forgiveness.
• Provide specific Word of God regarding God´s forgiveness.
• Minister forgiveness in prayer, if the person is willing to heal the guilt for sin against God,
his neighbor and himself. No force but hope that the defense mechanisms fall down.
• Give specific Word of God to support the healing of fear, desire and self-esteem
problems.
• Give word on the victorious work of Christ over the forces of evil.
• To encourage to depend on God and not the counselor.
• To inform about the prayer support for their cases.
• Refer to the Ministry of restoration of the Church.
65
The mediation does not have a rigid pattern because each case is different but should be
necessary to fill up the following steps.
Recommendations for the first contact:
• If possible try to get in advance the fundamental data of the person.
• Ask for God's guidance.
• Reach the relief of the person in crisis.
• Provide security and trust in a discreet atmosphere.
• Listen without interruption without judging or taking sides.
• Show empathy, understanding, patience and love.
• Provide security in overcoming the crisis.
• Allow the person to talk or cry, etc. in order to attain relief
Objectives
66
• Reduce the stress state.
• Deliver their loads to God.
• Counteract violence expressions and risks of life.
• Induce a process of restoration by means of ministerial support.
• Confidence that there is a solution.
Recommendations for counseling: consideration and definition of the problem
• Identify the content of the feelings and the persons involved in the crisis.
• Identify the location of the causes in time past, present or anxiety towards the future.
• Determine spiritual causes.
Objectives:
• Establish immediate needs.
• Separate what has no solution from what can change.
• Establish ministerial support for following needs.
67
Search for solutions:
• Guide to spiritual growth based on the specific word of God for the personal problem.
• Seek solutions with the agreement of the person on specific personal and family
situations.
• Facilitate tasks to meditate and put into practice at home oriented to induce positive
behaviors and break destructive behaviors.
• Ensure that the person can discern between what can be changed and what has no solution
and deliver it in God's hands.
Objectives
• Take action one step at a time by mutual agreement with respect to the person's ability.
Ensure that they can take control of their decisions and that they rely in God 24 hours a
day.
• Avoid dependency of the counselor.
Fourth phase: follow up
For the complexity, the specific and the number of people in crisis the follow up process
must be carried out by a ministerial supportive group of restoration that lead the person to
find its new position in Christ and restore him to personal and family level.
68
Since many of the problems are engrained in the past, the first years of childhood,
intervention through restorative prayer of forgiveness is required.
v Meetings for specific age groups can be offered to educate on the possible crisis of
development, raise self-esteem and give counseling on family matters. This should be done
through specific ministries in the Church.
